Veneta in 1962

The Year Somebody Counted the Whole Town

Veneta incorporated in 1962 with 1,123 people, and the West Lane News did something small towns used to do. It counted everything. Not a summary. An actual inventory of what the new city contained, printed in the paper.

It is a wonderful document. Two sawmills, Blek's and Johnson's. Two radio repair shops, because in 1962 that was a trade. A meat locker. A tailor. One tavern and one trailer court, listed with the same seriousness as the churches.

And near the bottom of the list, between the grocery stores and the flower shop: two doctors and a dentist.

Veneta is roughly four times the size now. Whatever else has changed out at the Fern Ridge end of the valley, dental care is a drive east, the same as it is for most of this county.

Veneta Now

The Crossroads at the West End

Veneta sits where Highway 126 meets Territorial Highway, one of the oldest roads in Oregon. That makes it the last real town before the Coast Range and the front door to the wine country.

Fern Ridge Reservoir

Nine thousand acres of surface water, made when the Long Tom was dammed in 1941 and the largest reservoir in the southern valley. Sailing, windsurfing, and the Eugene Yacht Club regattas, with crappie and bass for everyone else.

The Winter Marsh

They drain it every winter for flood control and the result is a wildlife refuge. Purple martins in spring, plus herons, osprey, beavers, pond turtles, and foxes. Half the county drives out here to look at birds.

The Oregon Country Fair

Started in 1969 as a benefit for an alternative school and never stopped. Three days every second weekend of July, out in the woods off 126, with its own water system and its own everything else.

Territorial Highway

One of Oregon's oldest roads, running north and south through the wineries. Valhalla to the west, LaVelle to the north, and the Territorial Wine Trail threading between them.

The Fern Ridge Calendar

Farmers market from May, Harvest Festival in September, the Holiday Light Parade and tree lighting in December. For a town of five thousand that is a full year of showing up.

The Way East

126 through Eugene is the run you already make. LTD even puts a bus on it to Eugene Station. Our office sits at the far end of that same road, past the freeway.

One Address, All of It

What Waits at the Other End of 126

Everything below happens at the Centennial office with Dr. Matthew Collins. For a drive that crosses the whole metro area, being sent on to a second address is the thing that ruins it.

Family Dentistry

Exams, cleanings, x-rays, and preventive care for every age. Book the household back to back so one run east covers everybody.

Kids Dentistry

First visits, sealants, fluoride, and cleanings paced for kids who have already sat through the drive in.

Emergency Dentist

Toothaches, broken teeth, same-day appointments. Call before you leave Fern Ridge so the trip is worth it.

Dental Implants

Single tooth implants, implant crowns, and full arch work planned and placed here rather than referred across town.

Restorative Dentistry

Fillings, crowns, bridges, and dentures. The work that gets a tooth back to doing its job properly.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Veneers, bonding, contouring, and smile makeovers, planned around your face rather than a catalog page.

Teeth Whitening

Professional whitening, with a straight answer on what your teeth will actually do before you pay for it.

All Dental Services

Every silo and treatment in one list if you want the whole picture before booking.

New Patient Info

Forms and insurance details, worth sorting before you spend the morning on 126.

Getting Here

East Until the Road Runs Out of Town

Highway 126 east out of Veneta, through west Eugene and across the river, over I-5, and into Springfield. Pick up Centennial Boulevard and Suite #3 sits between Pioneer Parkway and Mohawk, with parking on site.

You will drive most of Eugene to get here, which our Eugene patients find funny, and the Springfield page covers the blocks around the office. The service areas page has every town in the valley.

Worth knowing: 126 runs east out the far side of Springfield too, up the McKenzie. Same number, opposite end, completely different drive.

Questions From Veneta Patients

How do I get to you from Veneta?

Highway 126 east through Eugene, across I-5, and onto Centennial Boulevard in Springfield. It is one highway number nearly the whole way. If you already drive into town for anything, this pins onto that trip.

Is that not a long way to go for a dentist?

It is a drive, and we will not pretend it is not. The thing that makes it pay is that nothing gets referred out. Implants, crowns, dentures and cosmetic work all happen at the one address, so a treatment plan does not turn into three separate runs down 126.

Can the whole family come in together?

That is how most Fern Ridge families handle it. Parents and kids book back to back so one trip covers the household. Tuesday and Wednesday mornings go first, so call early in the week.

What about an emergency, or the week of the Country Fair?

Call 541-287-7874 as early in the day as you can and we will work to get you seen. Ring before you set off rather than after, because 126 in July is not a road you want to drive twice. We are closed Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
