A Road Laid Out by How Far a Horse Team Could Get

The McKenzie corridor is a string of communities spaced six to ten miles apart, and that spacing is not an accident. It is the old stage route, and the stops sit exactly as far apart as a team could comfortably travel. Walterville was one of the first, with a post office by 1875, named for Walter Millican, whose father George ran it.

A hundred and fifty years later the geography still decides everything. Walterville is the near end of the river, the first sign you pass on the way up and the last one on the way down. Which makes it the shortest drive on the corridor and the doorway for everybody behind it.

Around Walterville

Small Place, Long Memory

There is a restaurant, a feed and tackle store, a grange hall, and a great deal of river. That is roughly the whole inventory, and it is plenty.

Walterville Pond

Seventy acres of it, part of Eugene's hydropower setup, and quietly one of the better bird spots in the county. Herons, grebes, and osprey work the water while people fish the bank.

Hendricks Bridge Park

Where Highway 126 first crosses the McKenzie, on the site of an old ferry crossing. Grassy picnic ground and a boat launch that stays busy all summer.

The Grange Hall

Grange #416 still runs a potluck the first Tuesday of the month, dinner at 6:30 and the meeting after. There is an Easter egg hunt and a chili cook-off. This is the town's living room.

The September Fair

The Walterville Community Fair comes round every September, which for a place this size counts as the social event of the year and is treated accordingly.

All of It, One Address

What Sits at the Bottom of the River Road

Every service below happens at the Centennial office with Dr. Matthew Collins. Nothing gets sent on to a second address, which matters more the further up the corridor you live.

Family Dentistry

Exams, cleanings, x-rays, and preventive care for every age. Book the household back to back so one run down 126 covers everybody.

Kids Dentistry

First visits, sealants, fluoride, and cleanings paced for kids who spent the drive watching the river go by.

Emergency Dentist

Toothaches, broken teeth, same-day appointments. Ring before you leave the river so the trip is worth making.

Dental Implants

Single tooth implants, implant crowns, and full arch work planned and placed here rather than referred into town.

Restorative Dentistry

Fillings, crowns, bridges, and dentures. The work that gets a tooth back to doing its job instead of waiting.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Veneers, bonding, contouring, and smile makeovers, planned around your face rather than a catalog page.

Teeth Whitening

Professional whitening, with an honest read on what your teeth will actually do before you pay for it.

All Dental Services

Every silo and treatment in one list if you want the whole picture before you book.

New Patient Info

Forms and insurance details, worth sorting before you point the truck downriver.

Getting Here

Downriver and Straight On

Highway 126 west out of Walterville, past Hendricks Bridge and Cedar Flat, into the east end of Springfield. Main Street carries you across town and turns into Centennial. Suite #3 sits between Mohawk and Pioneer Parkway with parking on site.

You share most of that road with our Thurston patients, who join it about two thirds of the way in. The Springfield page covers the blocks around the office, and the service areas page has every town in the valley.

One last thing, since you live on it. The practice is named for two rivers. The McKenzie is the one running past your house.

Questions From Walterville Patients

How do I get to you from Walterville?

Highway 126 west, down past Cedar Flat and through Thurston, then onto Centennial Boulevard. One road, no freeway, no bridge. It is the same drive you make for groceries, just carried a bit further into town.

Do you see patients from further up the river?

Yes. Leaburg, Vida, Nimrod, Blue River and McKenzie Bridge all come down the same highway, and Walterville is simply the first stop on it. If you are upriver, add your miles to the front of the same trip.

What happens if I chip a tooth out on the river?

Call 541-287-7874 before you drive down, not after. Same-day appointments are built into the schedule and we would rather tell you what today looks like than have you come all that way on a guess. We are closed Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

Will bigger work mean more trips down the highway?

Not here. Implants, crowns, bridges and dentures are all done at the one office rather than referred out, which is the difference between one drive and three when you live at the edge of the corridor.
