Dental Cleanings in Springfield, OR

Regular dental cleanings are the most important thing you can do to keep your teeth and gums healthy for life. At Two Rivers Dental Group in Springfield, OR, Dr. Matthew Collins and our team provide gentle, thorough cleanings that remove the plaque and tartar your toothbrush can't reach. Whether you need a routine cleaning or deeper periodontal therapy, every visit is calm, comfortable, and focused on your long-term oral health.

The Right Cleaning for Your Smile

Not every patient needs the same cleaning. Dr. Collins recommends the right type based on the health of your teeth and gums, so you get effective care without overdoing it.

Most Common

Routine Cleaning

A standard cleaning, also called prophylaxis, removes plaque, tartar, and surface stains from teeth and gum lines. Recommended every six months for patients with healthy gums.

Includes scaling above the gum line, polishing, and flossing. Pairs perfectly with your routine dental exam.

For Active Gum Disease

Periodontal Therapy

Also called deep cleaning or scaling and root planing, this treatment removes hardened tartar and bacteria below the gum line where gum disease starts.

Recommended for patients with gingivitis or periodontal disease. May be done in stages over multiple appointments to keep you comfortable.

Ongoing Care

Periodontal Maintenance

For patients who have completed periodontal therapy, maintenance cleanings keep gum disease from returning. Typically scheduled every three to four months.

This deeper, more frequent cleaning protects the bone and gum tissue that hold your teeth in place.

Kids & Teens

Children's Cleanings

Gentle, kid-friendly cleanings designed to keep growing smiles healthy and build positive habits early. Often paired with fluoride and sealants.

A Calm, Thorough Cleaning Visit

Most patients are in and out within 45 to 60 minutes. Dr. Collins and our team take the time to make sure your visit is comfortable, transparent, and focused on your long-term health.

  1. Health review. We start by checking your medical history and any updates since your last visit.
  2. Gum check. We measure the depth of your gum pockets to assess the health of your gums.
  3. Plaque & tartar removal. We carefully clean teeth above and around the gum line using gentle ultrasonic and hand tools.
  4. Polish & floss. A smooth polish removes surface stains, then we floss between every tooth.
  5. Fluoride or sealants if needed. Optional fluoride varnish or sealants for extra cavity protection.
  6. Recommendations. Dr. Collins reviews findings and walks you through what to focus on at home.

Why Cleanings Matter

Cleanings Protect More Than Your Smile

Regular cleanings prevent gum disease, cavities, and tooth loss, but the benefits go further. Untreated gum disease has been linked to heart disease, diabetes complications, and pregnancy issues. A 45-minute cleaning every six months protects your whole body.

Dental Cleaning FAQ

Most patients with healthy gums benefit from a cleaning every six months. Patients with gum disease, frequent cavities, or specific health conditions may need cleanings every three to four months. Dr. Collins will recommend the right schedule for your individual oral health.
A routine cleaning at Two Rivers Dental Group typically takes 45 to 60 minutes, including the gum check, plaque and tartar removal, polishing, and flossing. Periodontal therapy or deep cleanings may take longer and are sometimes split across multiple visits.
Routine cleanings should feel comfortable. You may feel some pressure or vibration from the cleaning tools, but real pain is rare. If you have sensitive teeth or gum disease, let our team know. We adjust our approach to keep you comfortable, including topical numbing for deeper cleanings.
A regular cleaning, called prophylaxis, removes plaque and tartar above the gum line. A deep cleaning, called scaling and root planing, also cleans below the gum line where bacteria cause periodontal disease. Deep cleanings are recommended only when gum disease is present.
Most dental insurance plans cover two routine cleanings per year at little to no out-of-pocket cost. Periodontal therapy and deep cleanings are typically also covered, though specifics vary. Two Rivers Dental Group accepts most major plans and our team will help you understand your coverage. Visit our patient resources page for more.
No judgment, just honest care. Many of our new patients haven't seen a dentist in years. We start with a gentle exam to understand where things stand, then recommend the right type of cleaning to get you back on track. Call (541) 746-9552 to schedule your first visit.
